Camp Patanga involved 870 guides, ranger guides and leaders. The name Patanga means a place of gum trees. The theme was around the regions in Victoria. There were 26 sub-camps each with a region name.
Every region was represented. 52 ranger guides attended as a PR measure to encourage guides to go on to ranger guides and to act as assessors of the camp challenge, which was the basic daily program for the camp. The challenge consisted of 22 parts and each part was assessed on the guide’s individual capability. If the guide completed the challenge she received the Patanga Pennant – 500 guides received a Pennant.
Mrs West, the State Commissioner, performed the Opening Ceremony and 93 guides and ranger guides participated in it.
